Nicole McCaffrey's Other Published Work

Nicole, it's so great to have you on The Wylder West blog this week! Thank you for joining us!

We've heard a bit about Christmas in the Wylder County Jail and I think it's fair to say you've got most of us completely intrigued! This one is definitely going on my must-read list. Do you have any other published work?Do you have any other published work?

I was first published in 2006 but life took me on some detours along the way and writing had to be put on the back burner for a while.  I do have a back list but probably the two “stories of my heart” would be Wild Texas Wind, my first historical western, and Northern Temptress, which is set during the battle of Gettysburg.

They were both such great reads, Nicole. I enjoyed both of them!

Let's give readers a peek at some of your other stories, too.

Chocolate Chip Christmas Wishes releases in a few days but is available for pre-order now!

Jake Mistletoe is the North Pole's resident bad boy. Half elf, half human, he is the only child of a single mother who just happens to be Santa's head elf. Fed up with his wild, partying ways and lack of direction, his mother sends him to the real world for a dose of reality.

Lucy Prescott is all alone in this world. Since the death of the grandparents who raised her, she has struggled to keep their Christmas novelty shop running in a dated, dying Christmas-themed tourist town.

When Jake appears in town, magic seems to be in the air. For the first time in ages, life holds excitement, and Lucy finds herself wondering … what if?

Small Town Christmas is a perfect holiday read so we have to mention it, too. The calendar calls to us at this time of year, especially, to find heartwarming stories!

All Holland McCall ever wanted for Christmas or any other occasion was Tucker Callahan. Unfortunately, he was the high school jock and she an overweight, unattractive nobody. But things have changed. Holly has left the small town they grew up in and made a career for herself, with plans to move on to even greater things. Tucker, on the other hand, has just returned to town, divorced and the single father of two young girls. A visit home for the holidays and a chance encounter leaves both of them questioning everything they thought they ever wanted.

All Raz Colt wants is land, a quiet peaceable existence and to put his life as a hired gun in the past.  When the chance to earn a sizable fortune by rescuing a kidnapped heiress comes his way, he seizes the opportunity.  Trouble is, the heiress doesn't want to be rescued.  Offsetting Arden O'Hara's beauty is a rattlesnake personality and shrewish temper.  Despite her claim that she faked the kidnapping so her fiancé would ride to her rescue, Raz knows someone is out to kill her.  And if anyone gets the pleasure of wringing her lovely neck, it's going to be him.

Arden O'Hara is desperate to go home.  Her fiancé? was supposed to ride to her rescue, proving it's her, and not her father's money he loves.  Instead an arrogant stranger, with weapons strapped gun-fighter low and a decided lack of sympathy for her situation, shows up spouting a ridiculous tale about someone trying to kill her.  It's infuriating when Raz Colt's claims prove true after not one but several attempts are made on her life.  She has no idea who this fast gun with the deadly aim is, or why he makes her feel as wild and untamed as the Texas wind.  But like it or not, if anyone is capable of getting her home alive, it's Raz Colt.

Excerpt:

Like it or not, if there’s any man capable of getting Arden O’Hara home alive, it’s Raz Colt.

“Don’t say it, Colt.”

“No one else has reason to want you dead—other than me. But if you marry him and meet up with some convenient accident, Geoffrey becomes a very rich widower.”

She lunged at him, claws bared. “Bastard.”

Raz caught her arms and pressed her against the mattress. “The sooner you face the truth, the better your chances of staying alive.”

“I won’t listen to this.” She flailed, but when she couldn’t dislodge him, she thrust a knee toward his groin. “Let go of me.”

He straddled her hips to keep the knee from connecting. “Not until you calm down.”

“I’m not going to calm down as long as you’re on top of me, you jackass! Let me go, or I’ll scream.”

“You wouldn’t dare.”

She opened her mouth.

Pinning her arms, he had no choice but to muffle her scream with the only thing he had left. Leaning forward, he opened his mouth over hers.

In an instant everything changed.

When the Civil War arrives on her door step, Gettysburg doctor Alexandra Winters uses her knowledge of medicine to help the wounded. When an uncommonly handsome rebel officer finds her tending the wounded in his battlefield, he takes her for a spy until she confesses her darkest secret; her brother fights for the south. He vows to find her brother and insists on escorting her home. But Alexa already has enough gossip attached to her name thanks to a scandalous divorce; she doesn't need to be seen keeping company with the enemy at a late hour.

Major Caleb McKenna, CSA, has grown weary of war and bloodshed. Dreams of glory and valor are long gone, as is the memory of his beloved fiancee back home in Georgia. Try as he might, he can't recall her face. Instead, it's the bewitching image of Alexa Winters that haunts his every thought. Her stubborn refusal to show weakness is put to the test when he brings news of her missing brother.  His attempt to comfort the stoic beauty quickly engulfs them in a firestorm of passion, leaving Caleb torn between a promise made to the gentle belle awaiting his return - and an emerald-eyed, jet-haired Northern temptress.

When the major is gravely wounded, Alexa comes to his aide. Hiding a Confederate officer in a house filled with recuperating Union soldiers is risky... but fighting their growing desire is a battle they can't afford to lose.

Excerpt:

He gently stroked her back, keenly aware that only a thin cotton barrier stood between her flesh and his palms. A tangle of emotion tore through him, and like her, he fought against the need to give in to the grief gnawing at him.

"It was my fault. I ordered the men forward."

"You were following orders." She relaxed against him a bit more. "It's no one's fault."

He nuzzled her hair, breathed in the lingering aroma of lilacs. For the rest of his days, he'd associate that heavenly smell with Alexa Winters. "I hate this damn war."

She raised her head from his shoulder, and though shadowy leaves dappled her face, making it impossible to clearly see her, he could feel her gaze on him.

Without a thought, he brushed his lips against her forehead, intending only to comfort her as he would his sisters. The teasing smell of those damn lilacs and a scent that was uniquely Alexa filled his nostrils. Tormented by the soft curves pressed against him, his manhood roared to fully erect. A dizzying sensation enveloped him, urging him to move closer, hold her tighter. He forced aside the thoughts even as he struggled against the demands of his body.

"Alexa," he whispered against her ear. "I came here tonight with honorable intentions."

She turned toward him, the movement bringing her face into close contact with his lips. "A-and now?"

He stroked her cheek with the back of his fingers. "God help me, right now all I can think about is kissing you."
