Friday Round Up with Kim Turner

Before we let you head off, a couple more questions...

Do you have any hobbies that you'd care to chat about? Skydiving? Baking? Traveling? Whatever interests youwe'd love to hear about it!

I played drums all through school so I can play a lot of percussion instruments. I also played girls softball all the years I was growing up and into college.

I spent five summers working on a whale watch boat out of Gloucester-I taught the crew CPR for passage and taught whale stuff too!

I rode motorcycles growing up. My Dad had two girls but we both rode.

And few people know this but I have seen the country group Alabama over 400 times in concert since age 16….it’s always been my favorite reason to travel, that and the ladies I traveled with. I’ve been to China for the adoption of my second daughter and that was a hard but fun trip!

I have also been a Registered Nurse since 1989! Right now I am the sepsis and stroke coordinator for a small hospital south of Atlanta. It’s been a good career but I won’t say I don’t dream of being able to stay home and write full time.

Care to share any ideas on writing historical romance?

I think research is key for writing historical romance. Trust me, readers won’t be so kind if you toss in something modern or modern language or slang. You have to do your research or they’ll call you out really quickly. But since I am a nurse I will also say make sure you medical history is correct too. Honestly, it amazes me that authors will write a bad injury for a hero/heroine and then have them making love in the next chapter. Uhhh. Nope. So plan your injuries well and make sure there is healing time before the character is back in the running.

What drew you to write for Wylder?

My editor didn’t give me much choice. Lol! No, I pretty much write western historical romance  and had been aiming to write shorter stories and since I was allowed to help with the planning of the series…well, I was hooked. It’s been so much fun!

Are you working on anything new? Do you have plans for a next story that you’d care to share?

Evan’s Ransom: The long awaited forth McCade brother gets his story and winds up the storyline with some unexpected surprises bringing a lot of things full circle. Readers of this series will not be disappointed! Got this one about half written and get emails every week asking when it will be done, but I am taking my time to make sure it is what it should be! Not telling much here, but a love from Evan’s past returns and while rekindled love it one thing, forever is completely something neither of them expect, though it’s gonna take a heap of happenings to get there.

Paint the Sky: While I was writing the McCade’s of Cheyenne, my readers fell in love with Dawson’s Side kick Cheyenne Medicine Man, Leaning Bear. Well, wouldn’t you know it, he started talking inside this head of mine and I started writing. He will fall for a teacher who has come to work on the reservation and will be my first “A McCade’s of Cheyenne Novel”—the first of the spin off’s which will come from this so loved series! I also plan to have a book for Dodge…the mother of all 4 McCade brothers. Believe it or not I would say I have had no less than 100 requests for her current and back story! I am going to love, love, love working on that one. I’ve already mapped out a bit of it and just sigh myself. It will be called Loving Brett

It's been great having you here on The Wylder West blog this week, Kim! Thank you for joining us!
